Travis Spencer brings more than 18 years of collegiate athletic experience to Cyclone athletics

Hackettstown, N.J., Sept. 18, 2018 —Travis Spencer, a talented administrator with 18 years of collegiate athletic experience, has been named the director of athletics at Centenary University.

“I’m very excited to welcome Travis Spencer to the Cyclone family and I look forward to working with him,” said Kerry Mullins, vice president of student life. “Travis is a very talented professional who comes to us with a wealth of athletic-related experience that will be invaluable to our community and the future of our Cyclone athletics program.”

A native of Phillipsburg, N.J., Spencer comes to Hackettstown after spending 13 years at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., where he currently resides. He most recently served as the director of business development, working with the sales and marketing teams to plan, budget, and execute marketing plans while playing a significant role in the event management team that scheduled over 100 events per year. He assisted with the redesign of the website and helped senior leadership with the day-to-day workings of the department. In addition, he worked at Lehigh in corporate sales and assisted with revenue generating operations, handled the athletic department’s corporate affiliate program, managed fundraising, and coordinated alumni events.

“I am excited to bring my lengthy experience in intercollegiate athletics as a player, coach, and administrator to Centenary University,” Spencer said. “I have worked in various areas of the athletics department while at Lehigh and I am confident that I can contribute in keeping this athletics department progressing forward.”

Spencer got his career start as the assistant wrestling coach at the University of Scranton in 1998, assisting with the planning and running of two conference championships and the 2002 Division III National Wrestling Tournament. While working with the wrestling team at Scranton, he was also an account executive for the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Red Barons. Spencer earned his Bachelor of Science in business management in 1998 from the University of Scranton, where he was a member of the wrestling team. He earned a Master of Science in physical education with a concentration in sport management from Old Dominion University in 2005, and is currently working toward a Master of Educational Leadership from Lehigh University.
