Homecoming & Alumni Weekend 2012

The 50th Reunion of the Centenary College Class of 1962 highlighted the 2012 Homecoming & Alumni Weekend, which took place from October 12-14, 2012. Alumni of all ages gathered to enjoy such events as the Family Fest, a Trivia Dinner with Dr. Raymond Frey and a comedy show featuring Dana Duff ’97.

Fulbright Scholars come to Centenary

The week of August 6-9 was a whirlwind of activity at Centenary College with the Fulbright Gateway Orientation Program. Centenary hosted 61 Fulbright graduate students from more than 50 countries, as they came to the College for a weeklong introductory program on U.S. education and culture, as well as their responsibilities as Fulbright scholars and the benefits of the program. Centenary was one of only 10 institutions nationwide, and the only one in New Jersey, selected to host this prestigious event.

Scholarship Gala 2012

On Thursday, June 21, 2012, Centenary College celebrated its annual scholarship gala. This year’s theme was “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and the ceremony featured students and recent alumni performing excerpts from William Shakespeare’s play of that name. Three important Centenarians received the prestigious Gold Dome Awards, including: Chuck Mueller, Senior Vice President, Major Accounts, Automatic Data Processing, Inc.; Norman Worth and WRNJ Radio; and the Van Winkle Family.

May Commencement 2012

On Saturday, May 12, 2012, Centenary College celebrated its 137th Spring Commencement. More than 500 students participated in this year’s ceremony, which was highlighted by Channel 7 Eyewitness News Senior Meteorologist Bill Evans’ keynote remarks. Honorary degrees were awarded to not just Mr. Evans, but Centenary Trustee Michael Halpin and former Hackettstown Mayor Michael Lavery. Graduate Taylor Kennedy gave the valedictory speech and Morris Habitat for Humanity received the Dominick V. Romano Volunteer Award.

A Toast to Turf

On Friday, May 11, 2012, Centenary College hosted “A Toast to Turf,” an educational evening about craft beers. Beverage expert Dr. Rett Oren presented and guests were able to sample eight craft beers, as well as enjoy a “Beer Quiz” and take part in prize drawings and a Silent Auction. The proceeds benefited the Athletic Turf Field Project, part of the Cyclone Athletic Fund.

Denim, Diamonds & Cavalrymen

On Thursday, May 10, 2012, Centenary College honored three Diamond Award winners at its “Denim, Diamonds & Cavalrymen” event. The proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Equestrian Center Enhancement Project, which helps provide Centenary’s championship Equine Studies program with the facilities it needs and deserves.

January 2012 Commencement

On Saturday, January 14, 2012, Centenary College celebrated its 137th January Commencement. More than 250 students received their Centenary degrees and joined the ranks of our Alumni. Rochelle Hendricks, acting Secretary of Higher Education for the State of New Jersey, was the keynote speaker and Robert Gratz, Superintendent of Schools for Hackettstown Public Schools, also received an honorary degree.

Back Barn Dedication Ceremony

Centenary College held a dedication ceremony for the newly restored Back Barn at the Equestrian Center in Long Valley on Saturday, November 5, 2011. The ceremony honored the 165 people who generously donated time, resources and “sweat equity” toward the Back Barn Restoration Project, which took place in the Summer of 2011.

Centenary College’s Homecoming & Alumni Weekend 2011 took place September 23-25, 2011, and featured the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1961. There were many new and exciting events this year, including a Family Event, Heirloom Discovery Day and a special Trivia Dinner featuring College Historian Dr. Raymond Frey.
