Hackettstown resident Sara Schaarschmidt completed the Enactus internship online, while three Centenary students were nominated for national Enactus accolades.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J., Aug. 7, 2020—Centenary University student Sara Schaarschmidt was selected for a summer internship executing marketing strategies for the Enactus Belgium 2020 Expo, a national showcase of social entrepreneurial initiatives sponsored by student Enactus teams. A resident of Hackettstown, Schaarschmidt is a member of Centenary Enactus, the University’s competitive business team.

Schaarschmidt’s responsibilities involved remotely executing all marketing operations for the expo, including creating and updating the event’s website, establishing content strategy and a social media calendar, and producing all event-related videos while maintaining the Enactus international brand. A senior, she is vice president of marketing and social media for Centenary’s Enactus team and president of the VibeTribe, a student club that promotes creativity through social media-related projects. Schaarschmidt is a business administration major with a concentration in social media marketing and a minor in graphic design.

In addition to Schaarschmidt’s internship, several members of Centenary’s Enactus team earned recognition at the Enactus National Exposition, which was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Schaarschmidt was named a national finalist for Marketing Leaders of the Year. Other Centenary students recognized include Brittany Bradley of Randolph, N.J., national semi-finalist, Executive Leaders of the Year; Darnel Burnette of Irvington, national semi-finalist, Finance Leaders of the Year; and Marc Santora of Rockaway, N.J., national semi-finalist, Membership Leaders of the Year.

At the national exposition, Centenary’s team was also nominated for a 2020 Enactus Excellence Award for excellence in leveraging Enactus resources and opportunities. Linda Poisseroux, Ph.D., assistant professor of business at Centenary and director of the University’s Enactus team, lauded the team for continuing to excel, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic. When in-person classes and meetings were cancelled in March, the Enactus team met virtually to prepare their presentation for the exposition. Dr. Poisseroux said, “Our team kept moving forward, held fast to a tight practice schedule, consistently motivated each other, collaborated frequently online to keep moving projects forward, and were amazingly resilient every step of the way. It was a true pleasure working with all of them during a very challenging semester.”
